Installation Instructions (Configuration)

Open Elms ManualFollow these installation steps to configure the open elms Learning Management System after installation. If you wish to reference the manual instead, press the icon.

Configuration (Steps 10 to 16)

Step 10: Install the Flash Media Server

The presenter videos can be run locally - this leads to greater video quality and faster response times. To do this you will need to

1. Install Flash Media Server (10 user concurrent version is free from Adobe)

2. Ensure that in your chosen course, the value(s) in the file(s) ecourses-coursename-modulex-xml-information.xml is <server>localfms</server>

3. Copy all video files (supplied on CD else contact info@e-officesafety.com for copies of the video) to c:-Program Files-Flash Media Server 3.5-applications-vod-media or equivalent.

If the above steps are not completed, the video files will be streamed over the internet xml setting - -server-wmb-/server-.

Contact us for details on running the Flash Media Server for you.

Step 11: Populate the Databaseshow me how

The Learning Management System should be populated with all employee's details. This will allow the organisational structure to be defined.

To do this log in as "admin" and select "Import Staff". The CourseID is the default course the employees should carry out (e.g.56 for e-Office Safety.)

Step 12: Organise the Population show me how

Select the Employees option and review the list of personnel. [Edit] any employee to give them managerial access to data. Add 'Reporter' access to the appropriate personnel. Then select any departments or employees which they should have responsibility for (those managers will now only see data related to the selected departments or employees.)

Do the same for any other managers in the system.

Step 13: Activate the Employee Management System

The Learning Management System (LMS) allows unlimited use, however the Employee Management System (EMS) is limited to 10 users for each course. If you have purchased e-Office Safety or e-Start systems, or simply wish to use the EMS for your own courses you will need to activate this software.

Step 14: Customisation 1 show me how

The system is now installed. You can however customise the e-learning content using our e-Content Management System.

Customisations include editing the text,altering images and logos etc.

Step 15: Customisation 2

Install this application locally on the PC of anyone who would desire to change the html content (note this is usually the responsibility of one person.)

Make a copy of the 'lms\ecourses\" folder for locally on your PC before editing each course.

Click on the link to install the Open Elms Content Creator.


Step 16: Activate Selected Courses

The Learning Management System (LMS) allows unlimited use for your own courses, however the courses supplied as standard with Open Elms are limited to 10 users for each course. If you wish to purchase any of the courses you will need to activate this software.

Finished

You should now have installed the Open Elms Learning Management System and selected courses including e-Office Safety and e-Start courses.
